Hello my dear friends, I'm back with my another blog.
We all love to sleep, but what if you are sleepy but not able to sleep. This is the problem for most of the people. Yes, snoring. The word we hate most.
After having a tight day, having a sweet nap is best, but what if your partner is having the problem of snoring?
So what causes snoring?
Does it have to do something with our health?
We'll see all the answer for these question.
There are two types of snoring.
1) Through the nose
2) Through mouth
Snoring is often caused by a loose and weak tissue which is at the back of our mouth which collapses into the pharyngeal airway during sleep.
This tissue vibrates when air is forced to get into constricted airway and cause noise called snoring.
Tissue is allowed to relax as we fall asleep, that's why we snore while we are sleeping.
And this is why we don't hear ourselves snore. Also, the tissue tends to collapses inside the airway while we are lying down.
Sometimes anatomy is the main reason for loud snoring. These people born with a slight change in jaws, mouth and airway structure which leads to loud snoring.
These are the interiors which we cannot change but let's consider the outside factors. Weight gaining is the common culprit for snoring, consuming alcohol before bedtime is another.
Snoring is bad but what if it has to do with our health. Is it dangerous?
There is also a controversy in the medical field that whether heavy snoring is somehow linked with high blood pressure (BP) and any kind of heart problems.
Few people while snoring stop breathing for a while which is far more serious problem called sleep apnea.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is a condition in which the airway is get covered by the tongue which stops breathing for a while and bodies natural defence against suffocation is waking (or partial waking) up.
This probably may occur anywhere between a few to 100 times per hour which makes it dangerous sometimes. Since the person is mostly 'waking' up at night and not getting a proper deep sleep, person won't be too much active to do his/her job.
Sleep apnea is dangerous because it has been linked to heart failure and some other medical issues.
One of the main symptoms is excessive daytime sleepiness. Many of the traffic accidents are caused by this problem. So not only do we hurt ourselves but others inadvertently.
Most of the people didn't go for surgery as they don't consider it dangerous. There is about 50 per cent successful cases in treating apnea.
People with extra weight tend to snore because it creates excess, redundant tissue around the airway. Also, the extra fat around the jaws and throat adds extra weight on the airway.
Alcohol also makes you snore louder because it helps to relax the muscle tissue which is at back of the mouth, which makes you snore loud through mouth. The tongue muscle also relax more than normal and thus sides back into the back of the throat causing loud snore.
Surgery is the only option left, if you don't want any surgeries better to take care of yourself.
